Practice Description: I view the client–counselor relationship as a collaborative one. I believe we are ‘fellow travelers’ on life’s journey. I believe it is a sign of great strength to seek help and support in times of need. I believe in providing ‘sacred space’ where people can discover greater meaning in their relationships and lives. I use an integrated approach that values your uniqueness, autonomy and strengths. I respect your abilities and your discernment as to what is best for you. I also believe in advocating for you for your overall well being. I take care in valuing the personal beliefs and cultural/diversity paradigms of each client. My desire is that my clients know, feel and trust that they are safe, revered, listened to and heard as they make their personal journey. In the helping process, I believe in the benefit of:
  • Clearly understanding the concerns of each client by reflective listening coupled with questions designed to help you connect with your own insights and beliefs
  • The therapeutic power of both humor and silence.
  • Unconditional, positive regard for each client
  • Providing space for each client to tell their story in safety and confidentiality
  • Exploring one’s relationship to self, others and their spiritual source
  • Understanding connections between our past experiences and our present ways of being
  • The EMDR process of attending to Adaptive Information Processing
  • Paying attention to our emotions and what our bodies are experiencing
  • Being mindful of our thought and behavior patterns with the hope of optimal well being
  • Focusing on strengths and healthy life skills
